This is a picture taken from a man charged with animal cruelty in Florida for starving more than eleven horses. It came from an online newspaper found here: http://www2.jcfloridan.com/jcf/news/local/article/jackson_county_man_charged_with_animal_cruelty/13482/
I believe this picture of the obviously starved horse appeals to pathos. Anyone who sees this is probably going to feel some kind emotional response, be it to cringe, look away, or tear up. I personally am appalled that someone could do this to an animal. In addition to being starved, these horses were infested with worms, another sign of neglect that the man had not been giving them their shots. Not only is it wrong to mistreat animals but it is also illegal in most of the United States. *
This argument is about stopping animal cruelty and suffering. The best way to appeal to people about this is through pictures of abuse and neglect that appeal to pathos, or emotions. There are many organizations in the United States that fund and support such rescue operations like this one to save animals from conditions that they otherwise might die in. The ASPCA and PETA are just two examples.
Saving animals is important to me because for one, animals cannot help themselves and they depend on humans to survive, and two they deserve a chance at life just like every human has the right to. Animal rights are important because it is our duty as a sentient and capable species to look after animals and care for them, not mistreat them like they cannot feel pain or do not have needs.
